Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh discusses hostage deadlock, aid for displaced

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met with leaders of Naga civil society organisations in Senapati district to address the unresolved case of six Naga civilians killed after their abduction. The hour‑long discussion, attended by senior district officials, focused on the bodies still held in the mortuary and the Naga council’s four demands, including the removal of the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militants, arrests related to the killings, and the dismissal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen. United Naga Council President Ng. Lorho described the talks as "fruitful and meaningful" but said they ended without a conclusion.

On a separate occasion, the chief minister distributed Rs 1 lakh to each of 26 internally displaced persons at the Lamboikhongnangkhong Relief Camp for urgent medical treatment of chronic illnesses such as kidney disease and cancer. He emphasised that the state will continue to provide financial assistance to displaced families affected by the ethnic violence that began in May 2023, which has forced around 60,000 people from the Imphal Valley and hill districts to flee their homes.
