Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh lauds student excellence amid unrest

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh attended the "Incentive to Government School Students Who Excel in Higher Secondary Examination" awards ceremony in Imphal, praising the continued commitment of students and teachers despite ongoing ethnic violence in the state. He highlighted the role of women in Manipuri society, citing historic figures and the all‑women market Ima Keithel, and referenced Olympic gold‑medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu as an inspiration for youth.

Singh noted that the award scheme, launched in 2018, encourages healthy competition and supports meritorious students to pursue higher education. He pointed to the School Fagathansi Mission’s success in merging low‑enrolment schools, citing Chingamakha High School’s growth from 14 to over 250 students and the strong performance of T. G. Higher Secondary School, which produced 11 state‑position holders among its 17 awardees. The chief minister stressed that education remains the backbone of society and a pillar of resilience amid the crisis.
