Manipur chief minister welcomes surrender of 46 KCP-PWG insurgents and 28 weapons

Forty‑six cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party‑People’s War Group (KCP‑PWG), including founder chairman Laishram Ranjit alias Tamnganba, laid down their arms at the Mantripukhri Garrison of the Assam Rifles (South) in Imphal East. The surrender ceremony was attended by Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Art & Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken, senior army, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF and state police officials.

The insurgents surrendered 28 weapons – AK‑series rifles, INSAS, SLRs, carbines, pistols, double‑ and single‑barrel guns, an RPG launcher – as well as magazines, ammunition, grenades, detonators, IEDs and other explosives. The event marks the largest simultaneous surrender by the KCP‑PWG since the ethnic violence that began on May 3, 2023, and is described by the chief minister as a milestone for Manipur’s peace process. He noted that security forces have recovered more than 8,000 weapons since the May 2023 crisis and over 1,200 firearms since the current government took office on February 4, 2024. Under the Revised Surrender‑cum‑Rehabilitation Scheme, the surrendered cadres will receive a monthly stipend of up to Rs 6,000 for three years and a rehabilitation grant of Rs 4 lakh.
