Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh urges mother‑tongue schooling, praises state’s sporting record

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh addressed a three‑day workshop on the National Education Policy 2020 in Imphal, stressing that teaching children in their mother tongue up to class V will improve learning speed and effectiveness. He linked the policy to the nation’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, highlighted the need for skill‑development education, and mentioned that summer vacations were shortened and Saturdays declared working days for government departments after the disruption caused by the Tronglaobi incident.

Speaking at the International Olympic Day Run, Singh described Manipur as a model of unity among 36 communities and noted the state’s outsized contribution to Indian sport, producing 19 Olympians. He pointed to the near‑completion of India’s first National Sports University in Manipur and announced a Rs 5 crore allocation for modern sports equipment, urging athletes to maintain discipline and a drug‑free lifestyle.
