Manipur Players Meet State Chief Minister Over Women’s Football Success

Nine footballers from Manipur who were part of the Indian women’s national team’s SAFF Championship victory met Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh. The players highlighted their contributions to the 2024 SAFF title, where India beat Bangladesh 3-1, and reminded the minister that a third of the 23‑member squad comes from Manipur.

They urged the state government to sustain and expand support for women’s football, proposing annual tournaments, better facilities, and career opportunities for players employed in government departments. The chief minister praised their achievements and reaffirmed the government's commitment to developing the sport at the grassroots level in Manipur.
