Manipur security operations recover 1,422 arms in six months
Security forces and law enforcement agencies in Manipur have recovered 1,422 arms, 7,010 rounds of ammunition, and 1,137 explosives during operations conducted between February 5 and August 11.
Director General of Police Rajiv Singh reported that 1,570 joint operations were carried out during this period, resulting in the arrest of 491 extremists. The recovery includes approximately 85% of the weapons previously looted from police armouries. Additionally, 46 cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) surrendered in July.
The government has reiterated a surrender policy where individuals who voluntarily return looted weapons are exempt from legal action, encouraging insurgent groups to shun violence and rejoin mainstream society.
