Manipur violence: CRPF officer injured and homes torched in Senapati
Violence erupted in Manipur's Senapati and Kangpokpi districts on Monday, involving arson and gunfire between ethnic groups. The unrest began in the early hours when a house in Taphu Kuki village, Kangpokpi, was set on fire. This was followed by arson targeting several homes in the Naga Taphu area of Senapati district.
Later in the morning, a gunfight broke out between two groups in the Taphu Naga area. During the exchange, Pradeep Singh, a sub-inspector from the CRPF's 36th Battalion, was shot in the leg. He was transported to Senapati District Hospital, where officials reported he is currently in stable condition.
In response to the violence, local residents staged protests near Senapati Gate, blocking National Highway-2 with burning tires and debris, which disrupted traffic on the Imphal-Dimapur route. Security forces have been deployed to the affected areas to maintain order. The Taphu Kuki Village Authority has condemned the property damage and demanded that those responsible be identified within 24 hours.
