Manisa cloth weaving tradition revitalized by local women

The traditional art of Manisa cloth weaving, which has a history spanning over 600 years, is being revitalized through the efforts of local women. Under the initiative of Mübeccel Kafkaslı, President of the Manisa Historical Cloth Cooperative (MABEZ), weaving courses have been established within the Şehzadeler Public Education Center.

At these workshops, women use traditional looms to produce various items, including towels, peshtemals, tablecloths, and both silk and cotton shawls. The production utilizes cotton grown in the Gediz Plain, transforming the raw material into cultural heritage products through traditional methods.

Local education officials recently visited the weaving workshop to observe the progress and receive information from master weaver Serpil Bingöl. Officials emphasized the importance of preserving these traditional handicrafts to ensure the city's cultural legacy is passed down to future generations.
