Manisa firm develops AI-powered machine to increase shoe production 10-fold
A company in Manisa, Turkey, has developed an AI-powered machine for sewing shoe uppers (saya dikimi) following eight years of R&D supported by KOSGEB. The machine uses an AI module to analyze part images and check stitching quality and suitability before autonomously performing the task.
According to Board Member Ata Sarı, the technology has reduced waste rates by up to 80%. In terms of capacity, while a traditional master can sew approximately 10 pairs of uppers per day, the new machine can reach 80 to 100 pairs daily, effectively increasing production tenfold with existing personnel.
Berke İçten, President of the Turkey Shoe Manufacturers Association (TASD), noted that the domestic design of both hardware and software is a significant achievement for the sector. The company aims to export the technology to markets with high labor costs, including Europe and the United States.
