Manisa grape producers present demands to Agriculture Minister
Manisa MHP Group Deputy Chairman Erkan Akçay met with Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı to present the demands of grape producers. Akçay highlighted Turkey's global leadership in raisin production, noting that the country is the world leader in seedless raisin exports, with an export share of 45%.
Akçay addressed several concerns, including yield speculation that drives down prices, the impact of smuggled and imported raisins, and the need for government intervention. He proposed the establishment of a "Grape Intervention Institution" composed of various agricultural and commercial entities to stabilize price fluctuations. Additionally, he urged the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) to act as a market regulator by purchasing raisins and called for raisin prices to be announced no later than July.
