Manisa hosts Yuntdağı Oil Wrestling festival, June 5‑7 2026

The Manisa Metropolitan Municipality organized the traditional Yuntdağı Yağlı Güreşleri (oil wrestling) in Ortaköy from 5 to 7 June 2026. About 1,567 wrestlers from across Turkey competed in several weight divisions, with the first day's bouts completed and the final quarter‑final, semi‑final and championship matches scheduled for the weekend.

The event drew municipal leaders, federation officials and local politicians, including Mayor Besim Dutlulu, who said, “Gerçekten çok güzel ve keyifli bir etkinlik oluyor.” He highlighted the city’s pride in preserving the sport and noted the municipality’s commitment to future cultural‑sport activities. The second day featured rounds in the Büyükorta, Başaltı and Başpehlivanlık categories, determining the finalists for Sunday’s climax.

The festival attracted large crowds of spectators and reinforced Manisa’s role as a centre for Turkey’s traditional wrestling heritage.
