Serkan Kurtuluş extradited to Turkey from Argentina
Organized crime leader Serkan Kurtuluş has been extradited from Argentina to Turkey following a long-running international legal process. Kurtuluş, who was wanted via a Red Notice for crimes including premeditated murder, armed robbery, and forming a criminal organization, was transferred to Turkish authorities at Istanbul Airport via a flight that transit through Brazil. During the transit in Brazil, Kurtuluş reportedly attempted to force an aircraft evacuation by shouting that there was a bomb on board.
In separate law enforcement actions, Turkish authorities have dismantled two major fraud networks. A visa consultancy investigation led to the arrest of 37 suspects accused of using bot software to manipulate consulate appointment systems. This scheme allegedly defrauded over 41,000 people of approximately 918 million Turkish Liras, with total money movement in related accounts exceeding 2.84 billion Turkish Liras.
Additionally, an operation in 19 provinces targeting a modem fraud scheme resulted in the detention of 90 suspects. The group allegedly posed as representatives of major telecommunications companies, claiming internet infrastructure changes required new modems. This scam targeted 801 victims, generating approximately 116 million Turkish Liras in illicit gains.
