Manishankar Iyer criticizes India's foreign policy and Election Commission

Former Union Minister Manishankar Iyer has criticized India’s current foreign policy, claiming the nation is becoming isolated amidst significant shifts in the global order. Speaking at an event in Srinagar, Iyer argued that India’s diplomacy lacks morality and direction, suggesting the government is being left behind by international changes. He emphasized the need for India to resolve border issues with China and establish peace with Pakistan.

Iyer also raised concerns regarding the Election Commission of India, describing the conduct of the Chief Election Commissioner as “shameful.” He criticized the lack of transparency in the appointment process for commissioners and judges, noting that while these are constitutional bodies, their autonomy has been compromised.

Furthermore, Iyer addressed India's diplomatic stance, questioning the effectiveness of current strategies regarding China and Pakistan. He noted a contradiction in advocating for diplomacy while maintaining a lack of dialogue with Pakistan, and suggested that involvement in the Quad has caused friction with China.
