Manitoba Hydro CEO Allan Danroth steps down
Manitoba Hydro has announced that CEO Allan Danroth is stepping down for personal reasons after two years in the role. The departure marks the second change in leadership for the Crown-owned utility in two years, following the dismissal of predecessor Jay Grewal in early 2024.
Hal Turner, the current chief operating officer, will serve as interim CEO while the organization conducts a search for a permanent replacement. Turner previously held the interim position in 2024.
Board Chair Jamie Wilson noted that Danroth’s tenure included improvements to the utility’s safety culture and the replacement of aging SAP software. The leadership change occurs as Manitoba Hydro manages significant financial and operational challenges, including an estimated $30-billion infrastructure deficit and a $25-billion debt load. The utility is also currently undergoing public hearings regarding its 10-year integrated resource plan and a proposed $3-billion natural gas-fired power plant.
