Manitoba invests $98,000 to restore Rivers train station and launch bike museum

The Manitoba provincial government, through the From the Ground Up — Safe Healthy Communities for All program, is allocating $98,000 to restore the historic train station in Rivers, Manitoba. Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard announced the funding at a press conference attended by about 25 local residents.

The grant will finance the renovation of the station, the creation of a bicycle museum on the site, and the expansion of bike trails in the community. The project also includes research with Ryukoku University in Kyoto, Japan, to document the Sekine bicycle story linked to the town’s former bicycle‑factory operations from 1973 to 1981. Officials say the effort will preserve heritage, boost tourism and support local economic and recreational development.
