Manitoba to adopt permanent daylight time year-round

Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew announced that the province will adopt permanent daylight time, meaning residents will no longer change their clocks seasonally.

The decision follows a survey of 72,000 residents, in which 58 per cent expressed a preference for staying on central daylight time, while approximately 34 per cent favored moving to standard time year-round.

While the shift provides more evening light during winter months, it will result in darker mornings for commuters and students. Although Kinew had previously expressed a preference for standard time due to the morning light benefits, the province is following the lead of Alberta and British Columbia, which both announced moves to permanent daylight time earlier this year.
