Manitoba's First Supervised Consumption Site Set to Open August 11 in Winnipeg

Manitoba will open its first supervised consumption site on August 11. The facility, located at 366 Henry Avenue in central Winnipeg and operated by the Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre, will initially run in a fenced parking lot before moving inside the former Western Fabrics building.

The site will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., offering supervised drug use, on‑site testing, and connections to treatment and social services. Staff are undergoing training this week, with additional sessions planned.

The provincial government says the centre aims to curb the rising number of overdose deaths in Winnipeg. Some local business owners and Progressive Conservative opposition members have expressed concerns about security and potential access by minors.
