Manlleu hosts European climate resilience summit
The town of Manlleu, Spain, has been established as a European micro-hub for climate change adaptation through the REHUBS (Rural Empowerment HUBS for climate resilience) consortium. The third plenary meeting of the consortium, held at the Museu del Ter, brought together experts from 12 European countries to develop technological solutions for rural resilience.
Organized by the Manlleu City Council, Veolia, and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC BarcelonaTech), the initiative focuses on the co-design of digital tools to manage local environmental risks. Key priorities include addressing water scarcity, droughts, and flooding, alongside heatwaves, pollution, and biodiversity loss.
The project aims to deploy two pioneering digital platforms in Manlleu: an intelligent supervision tool for water supply systems to prevent drought-related shortages, and a multi-risk early warning and emergency management system specifically designed to handle flood risks.
