Mannheim climate activists launch satirical website

Climate activists from the Widerstands-Kollektiv, formerly known as Letzte Generation, have launched a satirical website designed to mimic the official Mannheim city tourism page. The fake site, titled ‘Mannheim: The Hottest City in the World 2030’, uses exaggerated anecdotes to highlight the impacts of the climate crisis and urban heat. The satire mocks local issues such as insufficient drinking fountains, tree loss, and heavy road sealing to draw attention to the need for improved heat protection plans.

The city of Mannheim has indicated it does not plan to take legal action against the group, noting that the website is clearly identifiable as satire.

Separately, local authorities in Mannheim are issuing warnings to residents regarding safety in the city forest. Due to climate-related factors such as drought and storms, the city advises visitors to be cautious of falling branches, uprooted trees, and uneven paths. Officials remind the public that entering the forest is done at one's own risk under state forestry laws.
