Mannheim entrepreneur offers ‘Rage Room’ for stress relief

In Mannheim, entrepreneur Sinan Öztas has transformed traditional decluttering and moving services into a unique business model by offering a ‘Rage Room’. Customers pay to legally and controlledly destroy discarded items such as furniture, appliances, and glassware using hammers or baseball bats to relieve stress.

To maintain sustainability, the process follows a specific hierarchy of reuse. Before items are designated for destruction, Öztas checks with a local social department store (Markthaus) to see if functional and clean pieces can be repurposed. Only items that cannot be salvaged are sent to the high-bay warehouse to be used as raw materials for the Rage Room.

Participants are required to wear protective gear, including suits, gloves, and full-face helmets, following a safety briefing. The clientele is diverse, ranging from apprentices to professionals such as lawyers and doctors, with a noted high demand from women and those in social professions seeking physical outlets for frustration.
