Manning Park Resort marketing video draws criticism

Manning Park Resort is facing criticism following the release of a marketing video that many viewers have labeled as “tone deaf.” The video, published on August 30, features scenes of individuals appearing unconscious on trails and in water as they “absorb Manning Park’s healing frequency.”

Critics have pointed out that the imagery is insensitive given a recent rise in accidental drownings across British Columbia, which nearly doubled between May 1 and July 16. The backlash follows recent drowning incidents at Cultus Lake in August.

Vern Schram, general manager of Manning Park Resort, stated that the video was intended to be positive and was not meant to reference recent tragedies. He described the marketing approach as “provocative” and noted that such strategies have previously helped the resort attract over 1.4 million visitors.
