Manningham Council proposes compulsory acquisition of Doncaster East homes for pocket parks

Manningham Council has identified seven residential properties in Doncaster, Doncaster East and Bulleen for compulsory acquisition to create or extend small pocket parks. One of the homes belongs to Marija Kustura, who built the house 26 years ago and intended to renovate it for her ageing parents.

The council disclosed the plan to Kustura in a letter sent in May 2026 and a recent rates notice showed the council‑assessed market value of her home had fallen by $50,000. Kustura obtained an independent valuation that placed the property about $150,000 higher than the council’s figure. The acquisition would require approval from the state planning minister and, if approved, could be carried out over the next 20 years, with each park reserve covering three to four residential blocks.
