Manoj Bajpayee thriller renamed Gajab Raat following title controversy

The upcoming Netflix thriller starring Manoj Bajpayee and produced by Neeraj Pandey has been retitled ‘Gajab Raat’. The film was originally announced under the title ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’, but the name was withdrawn following backlash regarding religious sentiments and a subsequent direction from the Supreme Court of India.

In an affidavit, producer Neeraj Pandey stated that the previous title was unequivocally withdrawn and that all promotional materials associated with it were removed. The Supreme Court disposed of the matter after Pandey undertook to ensure the new title would not be evocative of the previous one or cause unintended interpretations.

The new trailer for ‘Gajab Raat’ depicts a suspenseful narrative centered on a morally conflicted police officer investigating a conspiracy after a woman is thrown from a moving vehicle. The film features an ensemble cast including Nushrratt Bharuccha, Divya Dutta, and Saqib Saleem, and marks the directorial debut of Ritesh Shah. It is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 23, 2026.
