Manolis Kefalogiannis challenges European Commission over Skopje remarks

Manolis Kefalogiannis has submitted a formal inquiry to the European Commission regarding statements made by the Commission President during a recent visit to Skopje. The President stated, ‘We welcome North Macedonia, with its identity and its language. We believe that Macedonian culture and the Macedonian language can only enrich our Union.’

Kefalogiannis characterized these remarks as unacceptable, arguing they contain historical and cultural inaccuracies. He contended that the culture of Alexander the Great is distinct from the modern state and its inhabitants, asserting that the current state was a product of the Comintern in 1932. He further claimed that the Macedonian language is a dialect of Bulgarian and questioned the European Commission's official stance on these matters.
