Manolis Papadakis, Director of Chania's 2nd General Lyceum, Dies Suddenly
Manolis Papadakis, the 62‑year‑old director of the 2nd General Lyceum (2ο ΓΕΛ) in Chania, Greece, collapsed in a local café on Wednesday morning and died despite emergency medical assistance. Police and EKAB ambulance personnel attended the scene, but he could not be revived.
The District Directorate of Secondary Education of Chania announced his death with deep sorrow, highlighting his long‑standing dedication to students, high ethical standards, and contributions to public schooling. Colleagues, pupils and local teachers described his loss as a “unfillable void.” A funeral service was scheduled for Friday at the Church of Saint Paraskevi in Perivolia. The tragedy follows the death of Nikos Apostolidis, former deputy principal of a local primary school, marking a second major loss for the region’s education community.
