Manolo Jiménez criticizes Mexico's debt levels and addresses political future

Coahuila Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas has criticized the management of public finances during the administration of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Jiménez stated that Mexico's federal debt, which exceeds 20 trillion pesos, saw a significant increase during the previous six-year term, estimating that approximately half of that total was accumulated under López Obrador.

Jiménez argued that this level of indebtedness is comparable to the debt accumulated by various federal administrations since the government of Gustavo Díaz Ordaz. He suggested that the increase reflects deficiencies in financial discipline and oversight, particularly following the elimination of certain trusts and changes to public spending mechanisms.

In a separate context, during an interview with journalist Adela Micha, Jiménez addressed political speculation regarding a potential presidential run. While maintaining a relaxed tone, he noted he felt “much political heat” and emphasized his commitment to his current role in Coahuila, stating that governing the state is the greatest honor of his life.
