Manolo Millares exhibition opens in Cuenca to mark centenary
The exhibition ‘Manolo Millares, rebelde’ has opened at the Fundación Antonio Pérez in Cuenca to commemorate the centenary of the artist's birth. The exhibition explores the work of Manolo Millares, a prominent figure in contemporary Spanish art known for his experimentation with materials such as burlap, ropes, stains, and tears to create a unique visual language.
Beyond his plastic arts, the exhibition highlights Millares' contributions to writing, poetry, and thought. The showcase is accompanied by three publications: the catalogue ‘Manolo Millares, rebelde’, a facsimile of ‘Memoria de una excavación urbana y otros escritos’, and his poetic work ‘Ahora se quedó la prisa quieta’.
Amador Pastor, the Minister of Education, Culture, and Sports, noted the growing interest in the cultural heritage of Castilla-La Mancha. He reported that museums in Cuenca have seen over two million visitors since 2015, with 181,006 visitors in 2025 and 117,474 recorded in the first eight months of 2026.
