Manouchehr Bakhtiari denied medical care in Bandar Abbas Prison

Manouchehr Bakhtiari, a political prisoner held in Bandar Abbas Prison, is reportedly being denied necessary medical treatment despite suffering from multiple serious health conditions. Bakhtiari, the father of Pouya Bakhtiari—who died during the 2019 protests—is currently battling prostate issues, heart problems, spinal stenosis, and severe cervical disc issues.

According to reports from the human rights organization HRANA, medical examiners have confirmed the deterioration of his physical condition and emphasized the urgent need for specialized treatment outside of the prison. Although Bakhtiari underwent an MRI in June, the results have reportedly not been provided to a neurosurgeon, and no effective medical follow-up has occurred.

Bakhtiari was detained in January 2026 and has faced legal proceedings in the Bandar Abbas Revolutionary Court. Concerns have also been raised regarding legal procedures, as he reportedly received his indictment 40 days after his court hearing took place.
