Manqoba Mngqithi cites player discipline for Yanga departure
Former Young Africans SC (Yanga) head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has revealed that disagreements over player discipline were a primary reason for his departure from the club. In an interview with Metro FM, the South African coach stated that it was common for players to miss training sessions without facing strict disciplinary action, a practice he believed undermined the club’s professional standards.
Mngqithi emphasized that he prioritized his principles and values over maintaining his position, noting that he frequently clashed with leadership regarding these issues. While he criticized the lack of accountability for player absenteeism, he praised club president Hersi Said and noted that his coaching staff worked diligently.
Regarding his technical team, Mngqithi explained that his assistants and staff have remained at Yanga due to differing contractual obligations. He noted that while his own departure was finalized, the staff members face financial penalties if they choose to leave voluntarily, whereas the club’s termination of his contract did not apply to them in the same manner. Assistant coach Simo Dladla has since taken charge of the team during the search for a successor.
