Man's body recovered from Manzanares River in Cumaná

A man's body was recovered from the Manzanares River in the Cristo Redentor community of Cumaná, Sucre state, on Sunday, October 4. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old José Gregorio, a resident of the area.

Local reports suggest the man entered the river to bathe before disappearing. Following a two-hour search involving the Cumaná Fire Department, Civil Protection, and the Sucre State Police Institute (Iapes), the body was located. Residents of the community expressed dissatisfaction with the emergency response, alleging that officials acted primarily as observers while community members performed the actual search and discovery. Some neighbors also criticized officials for recording the scene on mobile devices during the operation. Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of death.
