Mansa unrest follows murder of anti-drug activist

Tensions are high in Mansa, Punjab, following the fatal shooting of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta. The incident occurred after Jhotta confronted a medical store owner regarding the alleged sale of synthetic drugs and restricted medicines during a Facebook Live session.

Following the murder, the primary suspect, a chemist named Ashwini, fled to Salasar, Rajasthan. He was subsequently apprehended by Punjab Police with assistance from Rajasthan authorities. In response to the killing, local administration deployed bulldozers to demolish the illegal portions of the suspect's property and shop.

However, the administrative action triggered further unrest. An angry crowd gathered at the site, eventually setting the medical store on fire, causing the building to collapse. The Mansa Action Committee has called for a Punjab shutdown and is demanding a CBI investigation into the murder, as well as legal action against the SSP, SHO, and drug inspector. The victim's family has refused to perform his last rites until their demands are met.
