Manse-gu Public Health Center completes cognitive enhancement program

The Manse-gu Public Health Center in Hwaseong Special City has successfully concluded its cognitive enhancement program, titled ‘Pit-a-Pat Brain Exercise’. Running from September 8 to October 27, the initiative consisted of eight weekly sessions held at the Namyang Health Center.

Designed for seniors at high risk of dementia, including those with mild cognitive impairment, the program utilized cognitive stimulation methods developed by the Central Dementia Center. Activities included date calculation training to improve orientation and working memory, attention training using newspaper articles, and fine motor skill stimulation through bilateral writing exercises.

The program also featured ‘Sonkkeut Gamseong Workshop’, an occupational therapy craft program involving stencil work, napkin art, and gardening to provide sensory stimulation. To evaluate effectiveness, the health center conducted pre- and post-program assessments using the Subjective Memory Complaint Questionnaire (SMCQ) and the Short Geriatric Depression Scale (SGDS-K). Results will be used to improve future cognitive health services for the local elderly population.
