Mansfield man killed in wrong-way I-270 crash in Columbus

A 51-year-old Mansfield man, Mario Tufts-Davison, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on eastbound I-270 in Columbus early Thursday morning.

According to Columbus police, the accident occurred around 12:49 a.m. between I-71 and Cleveland Avenue. The crash involved a 2011 Kia Optima operated by Tufts-Davison and a 2017 Ram 2500. Police reports indicate the Ram entered the eastbound lanes while traveling westbound from an exit ramp, driving the wrong way into the path of the Kia. The collision pushed the Kia into the median wall, and the Ram came to rest on top of the vehicle.

The driver of the Ram was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition. All lanes of eastbound I-270 were closed for approximately five hours following the incident. The Accident Investigation Unit is currently conducting an ongoing investigation.
