Mansilla de las Mulas prison officers assaulted by inmate
Two prison officers were assaulted at the Mansilla de las Mulas penitentiary center on Saturday, September 19, after an inmate allegedly feigned a medical emergency. According to the Central Sindical Independiente y de Funcionarios (CSIF), the incident began when an inmate in module 14 collapsed. Following protocol, staff transported the individual to the infirmary.
After a medical professional determined the inmate was faking the collapse, the individual became violent. The service chief was kicked to the ground, and a second officer was struck with a headbutt during the inmate's subsequent transfer to the isolation department. The inmate reportedly maintained an aggressive stance even after being placed in isolation, requiring a prolonged effort by staff to secure him in a cell.
CSIF praised the professionalism and composure of the staff involved in managing the high-tension situation. The union also expressed concern regarding a perceived increase in disrespect and violence toward prison authorities.
