Spanish municipalities face political disputes over funds and debt
In Mansilla Mayor, a political dispute has emerged regarding the management of a new pilgrim shelter. The opposition, led by the Partido Popular, accused the City Council of planning to grant free management of the facility to a private individual despite an investment exceeding 1 million euros. The Mayor, José Alberto Martínez, denied these claims, calling them “directly false” and asserting that the facility will remain under public management.
In Magaz de Abajo, the Partido Popular has raised alarms over a debt of nearly 40,000 euros owed to the Canal Alto del Bierzo Irrigation Community. Spokesperson Pablo González Basante warned that this debt could jeopardize future investments from the 2026/27 Small Works Plan for Village Councils if not resolved immediately.
