Mansoor Delane emerges as top NFL rookie for Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs rookie cornerback Mansoor Delane has emerged as one of the top first-year players in the NFL. Despite missing most of Weeks 1 and 2 due to a shoulder injury, the former LSU standout has made a significant impact in Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive scheme.

Selected sixth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, Delane has excelled in press-man coverage, recording an interception and three pass breakups on 14 targets. He is currently paired with second-year cornerback Nohl Williams to anchor an overhauled secondary following the departures of Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson to the Los Angeles Rams.

In addition to his coverage skills, Delane has demonstrated physicality in run defense. Other notable performers for the Chiefs' defense include veteran linebacker Drue Tranquill and cornerback Kristian Fulton.
