Mantova and Carpi start safety‑driven removal of hazardous urban trees

The municipality of Mantova will cut down 13 aging Celtis australis trees in Piazza Virgiliana on 3–4 August after static and agronomic checks deemed them unstable. The public green service Mantova Ambiente will replace the trees with identical specimens in the autumn to preserve the historic layout of the park.

In Carpi, the city’s green‑space management service began a second phase of tree removals on 3 August, targeting nine dead or diseased trees along streets and in parks, including poplars, cypresses, a plane tree, a robinia, an elm and two firs. The actions aim to protect public safety while minimizing impact on urban bird nesting.

Both towns emphasize that the interventions are urgent measures to safeguard residents and maintain the aesthetic and ecological value of their historic public spaces.
