MANTRA Chain resumes operations after software dependency exploit

MANTRA Chain has resumed mainnet operations following a full network halt caused by an exploit in an upstream software dependency. The vulnerability was traced to the Cosmos EVM module, which had been upgraded just two days prior to the incident on August 18, 2026.

During the outage, the OM token experienced an 18.5% intraday drop to a new all-time low, while trading volume surged by nearly 600%. The project team stated that while two wallet addresses were affected, no user funds were exploited.

Although the network is now running on version v8.4.0, the recovery has faced scrutiny from developers. Concerns have been raised regarding a lack of transparency, as the team has not disclosed specific transaction hashes, affected wallet addresses, or the exact attack route. Some developers noted undocumented code changes in the recent commit, specifically regarding the upgrade handler and Go module dependencies, which some link to a security warning previously issued by Cosmos Labs.
