Manchester United intensifies chase for Roma midfielder Manu Kone

Manchester United have shifted focus to Roma midfielder Manu Kone after a reported collapse of their deal for Atalanta’s Ederson. United are said to be preparing a “massive” offer, with the club’s co‑owners INEOS targeting Kone as a priority signing to replace departing midfielder Casemiro and cover injury to Manuel Ugarte.

AS Roma have set a firm asking price of €55‑60 million (approximately £47‑£48 million) and have indicated they will not consider offers below that level. The club needs the fee to meet UEFA Financial Fair Play deadlines. Arsenal, Newcastle United, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Inter Milan have also been linked to Kone, but United have reportedly already contacted his agents and placed him at the top of a three‑player midfield shortlist that includes Alex Scott and Ayyoub Bouaddi.

The interest follows Kone’s strong performances for France at the 2026 World Cup, where he has been a key player in the midfield. United aim to secure his signing before the summer transfer window closes, hoping the fee will also help balance Roma’s books.
