Manuel Bompard expresses confidence in Mélenchon's 2027 candidacy

Manuel Bompard, coordinator of La France insoumise, expressed confidence that Jean-Luc Mélenchon will secure the 500 official sponsorships required to run in the 2027 French presidential election. Bompard noted that Mélenchon currently has approximately 200 elected officials ready to sponsor his candidacy.

Despite this confidence, Bompard criticized the current sponsorship system as a “complicated process.” He and Mélenchon are advocating for a shift toward citizen-based sponsorships rather than the current requirement, which has been in place since 1976 and necessitates endorsements from members of parliament, mayors, or regional and departmental councilors.
