Manuel Campos Marrufo wins karate world title in Yucatán

Manuel Campos Marrufo, a 24-year-old karateka from Yucatán, secured the world title in the free kumite category (ages 22 to 44) at the 5th World Shoto Cup. The competition was held in Mérida, Mexico.

In the final match, Campos Marrufo defeated Argentina’s Javier Fermani, an experienced continental competitor. The Mexican athlete utilized an early offensive strategy to build a lead and maintained pressure throughout the bout to secure the victory. His path to the final included a win over another Argentine competitor, Daniel Vázquez.

The 5th World Shoto Cup brought together more than 600 participants from 21 countries. While Argentina dominated the kata disciplines, winning both individual and team titles, Campos Marrufo’s victory prevented a complete sweep by the Argentine delegation.
