Manuel J. Méndez seeks reelection to New York State Supreme Court

Dominican attorney Manuel J. Méndez is seeking reelection as a justice of the New York State Supreme Court in the upcoming November 3 elections. Currently serving in the Appellate Division, First Department—which covers Manhattan and the Bronx—Méndez is running on the Democratic ballot in Manhattan alongside five other candidates.

Méndez, who has served as a judge in New York for 23 years, is the only Hispanic candidate in the race. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining Latino representation in the county. He noted that a judge’s role involves understanding cultural context and lived experiences to better interpret the motivations and circumstances behind certain actions within diverse communities.
