Manuel Knoll calls for youth protection to safeguard democracy

Manuel Knoll, the designated Minister for Youth and Democracy, has emphasized the need to address the disillusionment of young people to protect democratic stability. Knoll, a CSU politician and leader of the Junge Union in Bavaria, argues that young citizens must perceive tangible benefits from living in freedom and prosperity rather than feeling they bear a disproportionate share of societal burdens.

To ensure long-term stability, Knoll proposed incorporating a ‘sustainability factor’ into legislation to account for the consequences of current policy decisions on future generations. He cited the pension debate as an example where young people felt undervalued. Knoll warned that failing to address the concerns of the youth increases vulnerability to irrational political solutions and extreme parties, noting that centrist parties must improve their ability to reach young people within the modern media landscape.
