Manuel Muñoz Cano challenges delays at Tamaulipas Electoral Tribunal

Manuel Muñoz Cano, state leader of the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM), filed an appeal before the Regional Chamber of Monterrey of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF) on 30 July. He alleges that the Electoral Tribunal of Tamaulipas, presided by Edgar Iván Arroyo Villarreal, has delayed the resolution of case TE‑RAP‑26/2025, violating Article 17 of the Mexican Constitution and Article 8 of the American Convention on Human Rights, which guarantee prompt and effective justice.

The dispute originates from a sanction procedure (IETAM‑CG‑025/2025) approved on 22 October 2025 by the General Council of the Instituto Electoral de Tamaulipas, chaired by Juan José Ramos Charre, and handled by magistrate Ricardo Barrientos Treviño. Muñoz Cano also withdrew an earlier allegation that the tribunal had found him responsible for gender‑based political violence. The Regional Chamber is now set to consider his appeal for a faster, impartial decision.
