Manuel Neuer discusses future and successor at FC Bayern

Manuel Neuer has addressed his future at FC Bayern München, stating that while his retirement is not “set in stone,” the probability of it happening is high. Having extended his contract to include the 2026/27 season, the 40-year-old goalkeeper noted that nothing is 100 percent decided regarding his professional future beyond that point.

Neuer also discussed his relationship with designated successor Jonas Urbig. The 23-year-old, who joined the club in early 2025, is expected to receive more playing time in the upcoming season. Neuer described their relationship as open and collaborative, noting that the goalkeepers work together to push one another.

Beyond his immediate future, Neuer's career is recognized for revolutionizing the goalkeeper position. Known for the “sweeper keeper” style, he has been named FIFA/FIFPro World's Best Goalkeeper five times and recently surpassed 500 Bundesliga appearances.
