Manuel Neuer ties World Cup goalkeeping record as Spain's Unai Simón eyes new milestone

German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer matched Mexican legend Antonio Carbajal’s record of conceding at least one goal in ten consecutive World Cup matches. The milestone was reached in the round‑of‑16 loss to Paraguay at the 2026 tournament, while also giving Neuer the German record for most World Cup starts (23 matches). The defeat placed Germany’s continuation in the competition in doubt despite the personal achievement.

Spain’s goalkeeper Unai Simón is poised to break Walter Zenga’s record for the longest period without conceding a goal in a World Cup. To do so, Simón will need a clean‑sheet performance against Austria in the upcoming round‑of‑16 match, relying on the entire Spanish defence to maintain the streak.
