Manuel Ángel Garrido Abolafia resigns from Santa Cruz de La Palma council

Manuel Ángel Garrido Abolafia, a PSOE councilor for the Santa Cruz de La Palma City Council, has resigned from his position. His resignation follows controversial remarks made during a municipal plenary session on September 11.

Garrido questioned the use of maternity and paternity leave by public officials, specifically referencing the leave taken by Tourism and Heritage Councilor Saray González (PP) and Culture and Festivals Councilor RaIco Arrocha. During the session, Garrido remarked that councilors do not take leave and suggested that parents with newborns have their focus on their children rather than the City Council.

The local PSOE group announced the resignation on September 18, stating that they “fully” shared the decision of the councilor.
