Manuel Ricardo G.F. sentenced to three years for fatal drunk‑driving crash in Asturias

A court in Oviedo sentenced driver Manuel Ricardo G.F. to three years in prison and a five‑year ban on operating motor vehicles for causing the death of 31‑year‑old motorcyclist Andrea Llamas Grana on the "Y" highway on 31 May 2024. The verdict, issued by the Penal Section of the First Instance Court of Oviedo on 6 June, also ordered a €30,000 civil compensation to the victim’s husband.

The judgment found that the driver was heavily intoxicated, registering a blood‑alcohol level of 0.58 g/L, and was travelling at about 121.6 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. His impaired perception and excessive speed led to a head‑on collision with the motorcycle, which resulted in Llamas Grana’s death shortly after the crash.

The sentence also cited the driver’s previous traffic offenses, including a 2020 fatal hit‑and‑run and two later incidents that caused minor injuries, reinforcing the court’s view of a pattern of reckless behaviour.
