Manuel Villoria discusses integrity and corruption in Dominican Republic
Manuel Villoria, currently in the Dominican Republic to deliver lectures including one for the Global Democracy and Development Foundation, has addressed the complexities of fighting corruption and maintaining institutional integrity.
Villoria emphasized that combating corruption requires more than just punishing offenders; it necessitates creating protective conditions for whistleblowers. He argued that integrity is a fundamental requirement for strengthening institutions and warned against the damaging effects of impunity.
Regarding the challenges facing state entities, Villoria noted that public organizations must develop morality and integrity among employees to serve the general interest. He stated that public officials must act with impartiality, efficiency, and honesty, rather than seeking personal wealth or familial gain.
