Manuela Schwesig battles SPD decline ahead of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern election

Polls show the SPD at around 27‑28 % while the AfD leads with roughly 35‑36 %, prompting Schwesig to distance herself from the federal party line and emphasize a personalized campaign.

Schwiesg has publicly criticised the federal pension reform, rejecting the proposed increase in the retirement age and the linking of pensions to life expectancy. She argued that the reforms should be based on years of contributions and that the states were excluded from the commission work, calling the process a mistake.
